Tutti eroi o il Piave o tutti accoppati

Another pic taken at the military shrine of Fagarè della Battaglia (after this post and this other one). You can find on both sides of this shrine the remains  of two walls, with some inscriptions written on it during the fightings of June 1918. I present you today the first one:  “Tutti eroi o il Piave o tutti accoppati” (All heroes, or the Piave or all dead). According to the legend, this author was some anonymous soldier. According to other sources, the author was the capitano Marchese of the 2nd Reparto d’Assalto, fallen a few days after during the battle. More probably, it should be the work of the Italian propaganda companies.

The walls aren’t in their original locations, they have been moved during the building of the shrine.

And now a little game for you: what is the writing on the opposite wall? The first one who’ll answer and provide its translation will get a special gift!

The wall in 1918...

... and today
