The grave of Arduino Amati


Another grave located in Milan’s Cimitero Monumentale. This war hero, Arduino Amati, was killed at a very early stage on the war, in August 1915. He was then only 19 years old. According to the epitaph, his last words were for his mother, this explains the composition of the memorial.

The grave of Carlo Bazzi


Let’s go back to the Cimitero Monumentale of Milan (after all, it’s only 1 km from home…), with this grave of Carlo Bazzi, a hero of the Great War. He was born on January 12, 1883 amd was killed in San Martino del Carso on March 13, 1916. He was them captain in the 9th Reggimento fanteria (brigata “Regina”). He was awarded (posthumously) the Medaglia d’oro al valor militare:

“Alla testa del proprio reparto, con mirabile e cosciente ardimento, irrompeva, entrandovi per primo, in un saldo trinceramento nemico, impadronendosene catturandone i difensori ed una mitragliatrice. Contrattaccato da forze superiori diede intelligenti disposizioni per la resistenza riuscendo a respingere l’attacco Mentre più accanito era il combattimento, egli, bell’esempio di italiche virtù militari, sdegnoso di ogni riparo, dall’alto della trincea, imbracciando un fucile, invitava i propri dipendenti alla resistenza fìnchè, colpito alla fronte, suggellava con una morte gloriosa il suo atto eroico.”
