Killed on this day

Carlo Giani was a 22-year old corporal of the Genoa Cavalleria, and was killed 99 years ago today. This plaque, located in Milan’s Cimitero Monumentale, informs us he was a kind person (“animo mite and gentile”).

He was killed near Monfalcone on August 4, 1916. I had published a picture of a mass grave for soldiers of this regiment taken in the same place in the same month, was he among the men who were buried there?
