Gunners and pets


Let’s go back to Italy, with this picture (taken from I was There magazine) showing men and NCOs of the 181st Siege Battery RCA, which fought on the Italian front. You’ve probably seen the puppy, but did you notice the pidgeon on the cap of the gunner? This man was gunner Smith, who saved, fed to cared of it. That’s why the pidgeon didn’t leave him!
