99 years ago: Bombs over Switzerland

Exactly 99 years ago, at 5.00 AM, two German planes bombed by mistake the railway station of Porrentruy, in neutral Switzerland. Luckily, there were no victims and damages were very reduced. Even if the local press stated shortly after the event that these bombs were dropped by French airplanes, the discovery of an unexploded bomb allowed the authorities to confirm they were in fact German ones.

Not one single shot had been fired against these airplanes, because Swiss soldiers at the border weren’t given ammunitions…
