A mass grave for 5 Italian Dragoons


A very small picture, fresh from today’s flea market. I was interested in it because it’s clearly a privately-taken picture, as it shows Italian soldiers digging a grave. Thanks to the handwritten caption on the back, we know more about this scene: these men have just buried 5 Dragoons from Genoa regiment in one mass grave. These dead belonged to the Genova Cavalleria Regiment. These men may have been killed near Monfalcone in 1916, as some other pictures of the same series were taken in that location.
