Across the Piave


Let’s remain on the Piave river (see my yesterday’s post), with this other image, taken on year after the one shown yesterday, as we are in October 1918. Piave was in 1917 the last barrier against K.u.K. troops, it was in October 1918 the basis of Italian final victory. This picture, which shows British vehicles on a wooden temporary bridge was chosen as a cover by Norman Gladden for his Across the Piave book, published in 1971. If you have never read it, please do it, as it’s a very touching one!
