Ouvrage du Coran

Here’s another aerial view coming from my collection; we’re once again in the North of Verdun, in August 1917. The photograph was taken with a 45° angle; that’s allows us to clearly see the lunar landscape (note the destroyed trees) and see some details of the “Tranchée de la Perrière“, of the “Boyau de la Platelle” and the “Ouvrage du Coran“. Several locations of this sector had islamic names, such as “Ouvrage du Coran“, “Tranchée de Mahomet“, “Tranchée de la Mosquée“. I’d be happy to discover the story behind the origin of this naming!
