A group of Italian medals

You may remember this picture of war veterans portrayed in Milan in 1920 I had published some years ago.

All those men wore on their jackets the medals worn during the war. Such medals were replaced in later ceremonies by smaller versions of them, known in Italy as “mignon”. Here is an example of a series of them  (their diametre is 17 mm ca.):

The series includes the following medals, from left to right:

– Medaglia d’Argento al Valore Militare (which is obviously the most important medal of the group)

– Croce al Merito di Guerra

– Commemorative Medal with indication of the years 1915, 1916, 1917

– Unità d’Italia 1848-1918

– Interallied Medal (Italian version)
