Gabions on the ridge of Tonale Peak


I’ve explained in a previous post what gabions were. Here’s a view which shows the use of them on the Tonale Orientale ridge. Fill gabions with stones was an efficient way to create protection for soldiers on the top of these mountains, much more than digging trenches!

These ones don’t any inner metallic grid, which was indeed necessary thanks to the size of the stones used to fill them.
