I was lucky with this photograph. First of all, because it’s a gift of my friend Filippo, who can be considered as my main “picture pusher”. Then, thanks to the two-word legend on the back of the picture (“Monte Poré”), I just need a few seconds to know more about this strange and almost theatrical photograph. Indeed, thanks to the website of the Istituto Storico e di Cultura dell’Arma del Genio, I’ve discovered that this picture was taken in March 1916 and shows the searchlight of Monte Poré, while it was illuminating The Col di Lana Mountain.

A fantastic image! The Google Street View of the roads closest to Monte Poré reveal a very high and rugged landscape. It is difficult to imagine a soldier’s life in that kind of environment.
