The impact of war on landscape

This aerial photograph shows clearly the impact of War on landscape: note the difference of the heavily shelled zones of the forts of Bezonveaux et Hardaumont (their fonction was to defend the fort of Vaux) and the eastern region of Verdun, in the background. Trenches and shells have transformed the landscape in a lunar one. This photograph was taken on July 22, 1917.
