A painted helmet

This wonderful painted helmet, shown in Historial Museum (Péronne)  was designed for tank crews: it had indeed a protection on the frontal part against shocks. On its back, you can notice the text “Soldat de la Grande Guerre”. The very same text was written on bronze crescents which were fixed on the front of classical Adrian helmets. As this part was missing on the version produced for tank crews, the painter, Louis Potronat, decided to paint it on the back! The tank is a French Renault FT17.
