Chasseur with Croix de Guerre and Fourragère


Today’s picture is a portrait of a French Chasseur, with his one-star Croix de Guerre Medal and a fourragère; unfortunately I cannot identify which one it is. During the First World War, the fourragère was awarded the fourragère to units which had been recorded as distinguishing themselves more than once in the Orders of the Army. There are different kind of fourragères, with different colours. During the Great War, the 1st, 22nd and 27th Chasseurs battalions were among the first units which were allowed to wear the Croix de Guerre fourragère (green and red).
