Beware of the Gun

Soldiers generally want to be photographied with their weapons, as the weapons characterize the soldier, maybe even more than the uniform. Therefore most of the studio photographs I own show men with rifles, bayonets, or, like for this one, a pistol (in this case a .45 1911 Colt pistol).

I must admit I feel very ill at ease with such photographs, as – hopefully – today no professional soldier would aim his pistol at his friend for a photograph, with the finger on the trigger…
